Northern Lights Music Festival Chamber Concert

The Northern Lights Music Festival (NLMF) is returning to the LVCC next week for a chamber concert.  The concert will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 7:00 pm. There will be solo and chamber music.

The program will feature guitar faculty Carlos Bedoya and guitar students Kailai Yang and Ke Yang from the Young Artist Program and Iron Range Community Lessons. Also featured are internationally acclaimed artists Nikita Korzukhin (cello), Iana Korzukhina (viola), and Fedor Solonin (cello).

Additionally, concert attendees will be introduced to Carrie Vecchione, oboe, and Rolf Erdahl, bass, known as OboeBass! “the world’s only professional oboe/bass duo.” Called pioneersby MPR, they concertize widely around the U.S., and toured Norway in 2017. They have commissioned over forty new oboe/bass pieces and recorded seven CDs, effectively creating the oboe/bass duo genre. National awards include a Barlow Foundation commission for Alyssa Morris’s Common Ground, a Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant for Valerie Colemans American Vein, and a Harvard Fromm Commissioning Grant for Mary Ellen Childs’ There is a Humming. Other awards include American Composers Forum grants and teaching and performing grants from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, Minnesota State Arts Board, and SD Arts Council.

Works included in the program are by J.S. Bach, Rebecca Clarke, Alyssa Morris, and Latin American composers Antonio Lauro and Morel Jorge.

This concert, as well as many other events this season, is dedicated to the memory of Veda Zuponcich, the Founding and Artistic director of the Northern Lights Music Festival.

The LVCC looks forward to the NLMF returning to Tower. Tickets may be purchased at northernlightsmusic.org or at the door for $15 adults, $5 children.  The LVCC is located at 705 Main Street, Tower, MN.
